Wild flowers, an assortment of bread, pâté, cheeses and Gazpacho formulated the two starters for this midsummer's night.

Lupine's are fully bloomed, by next week our midsummer's night flowers will be reduced to being merely weeds.

5 am and the mist crept in, someone's dinner was left up for grabs.

Saturday morning and summer exposed itself.

“And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer.”
-F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby

Fitzgerald said it: life begins all over again in the summer (however, he also said it begins all over again in the fall, therefore, each season has the promise of a new beginning--one might hope). With these sweet words, we shall commence our first post of a blog that depending on how you look at it, isn't really about anything special, just food and thoughts--which have the potential of becoming anything really--because if we can't find something special in every single day, what is the point?

Midsummer was cold and rainy yet at times, warm and sunny but when you are not hungry, it's hard to complain. We were essentially glamping, inside but without a kitchen, so our three course dinner comprised of food we could make ahead at home and pack in pretty baskets, pretty baskets being a criteria for glamping. Mason jars are the absolute best for glamping, a picnic, and why not for generally storing food? Our giant mason jar of gazpacho was for us four, yet it could have easily served ten people. We'll share the recipes next time, until then, enjoy the summer, relish the rain and savor the sun--we are only midway after all.
